Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy
What is a Hysteroscopy? A hysteroscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the uterus with a thin, camera-equipped tube called a hysteroscope. It is inserted through the vagina to inspect the uterine cavity. The procedure usually takes between 10 to 30 minutes. When is a Hysteroscopy Needed? A hysteroscopy is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, such as: Removal of ovarian cysts. Treatment of endometriosis. Removal of benign tumors or adhesions inside the uterus. Hysteroscopic procedures are preferred over traditional surgery because they are faster, cause less pain, have a shorter recovery period, and do not require surgical incisions, reducing the risk of infection and complications. Best Time for a Hysteroscopy The best time to undergo a hysteroscopy is about a week after the end of the menstrual cycle, ideally between the 6th and 10th day. At this time, the uterine lining is at its thinnest, making it easier to achieve a clear view with the hysteroscope. Does a Hysteroscopy Help with Pregnancy? The effectiveness of a hysteroscopy in aiding pregnancy depends on the underlying cause of infertility. The procedure is used to treat conditions that may prevent pregnancy, such as: Removing adhesions inside the uterus that may hinder embryo implantation. Opening blocked fallopian tubes near the uterus. Removing fibroids that may affect fertility. Improving the uterine lining, making it more suitable for pregnancy. Post-Hysteroscopy Guidelines After the procedure, it is essential to follow the instructions of hysteroscopy expert Dr. Ayman Taher, which include: Resting for several hours or a full day, depending on the doctor’s recommendation. Avoiding intercourse for a week, or as advised by the doctor. Monitoring for any post-procedure bleeding and consulting Dr. Ayman Taher if needed. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Avoiding hot baths. Refraining from driving unless approved by the doctor.
